Chicago’s iconic Field Museum will hold a special free admission day this week as part of a new exhibit opening.

Special Free Admission Day

The Field Museum, at 1400 S. DuSable Lake Shore Drive, will offer free admission to Illinois residents on Friday, September 27. The day joins the museum’s already scheduled free days, every Wednesday, for Illinois residents in 2024.

Residents need to show proof of residency to receive free general admission to the museum. Free Day tickets are available on-site only for Illinois residents and cannot be reserved in advance. Discounted Discovery and All-Access Passes are also available.

New Fossil and Special Events

The free admission day comes as the museum welcomes a new fossil.

To celebrate the Chicago Archaeopteryx and its new, permanent home in the Griffin Halls of Evolving Planet, the Field is hosting Free Friday. The Archaeopteryx party continues with Archaeopteryx-themed tours, a special Craft and Story Time in the Crown Family PlayLab, a scavenger hunt, and so much more.
