Winter Weather Advisory Goes into Effect Wednesday

Chicago Weather Update

Two winter storms will impact the Chicago area this week. The first will arrive on Wednesday, the second will move in on Saturday.

Winter Weather Advisory

What We Know:

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for all of Chicagoland, except LaPorte County, Indiana, from Wednesday afternoon through 6 a.m. Thursday.

Forecasters expect a mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow to move into the region Wednesday afternoon and last late into the night, bringing up to an inch of snow and a thin layer of ice accumulation.

Travel conditions will likely deteriorate as the system moves in, with roads and sidewalks becoming slick.

Accumulations of ice on elevated and untreated surfaces will likely lead to slick conditions for the Wednesday afternoon and evening commute. Drivers should allow extra travel time and monitor weather updates for any changes to the forecast.

The advisory is set to expire at 6 a.m. Thursday, with conditions expected to improve after that.

What’s Next:

Warmer air will arrive on Thursday, aiding in melting and improving conditions. Skies will be mostly cloudy with highs in the low 40s.

Friday will be another mostly cloudy day and temperatures will be cooler with highs near 30.

Weekend Winter Storm

Another storm system is expected to impact Chicagoland on Saturday. While we’re still a few days away from this storm, it appears it’ll bring another wintry mix with snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain all possible. Slick conditions may dominate Saturday afternoon and evening, so it’ll be something to watch.

The weather looks good for Super Bowl Sunday with mostly cloudy skies and highs near 30.

Skies will stay dry into early next week with no precipitation expected through Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures will be in the upper 20s and low 30s early next workweek.
