New Location to Feature Lakefront Deck and Bar

SOUTH SHORE — A South Side bistro will open a new location this summer at Rainbow Beach, featuring a lakefront deck and bar.

About the New Location

Norman’s Bistro, which opened in North Kenwood in 2010, is opening Norman’s on the Lake at the Rainbow Beach house, 3111 E. 77th St. in South Shore. The new location is set to open on May 26, which is Memorial Day and the traditional start to Chicago’s beach season, according to the restaurant’s website.

Rainbow Beach Concessionaire

Norman’s will be the Rainbow Beach concessionaire through at least the end of 2027, Chicago Park District spokesperson Michele Lemons said. Construction of the deck, which will include a bar and seating, is underway, Lemons said.

About Norman’s Bistro

Norman’s Bistro offers American Creole-, Caribbean- and Brazilian-inspired dishes like gumbo, blackened catfish, and jambalaya at its main location, 1001 E. 43rd St.

Other South Side Beach Vendors

As Norman’s on the Lake prepares to open, several other South Side beach vendors will return for the upcoming season, Lemons said. Pier 41 at Oakwood Beach, Truth on the Beach at 57th Street Beach, Reggie’s on the Beach at 63rd Street Beach, and the South Shore Social Beach Club at the South Shore Cultural Center will all be back this summer, Lemons said.

Waves Bar & Grill at Calumet Beach

Waves Bar & Grill will run concessions at Calumet Beach. The beach’s former vendor, Morelos Tacos, still operates a food truck in Calumet Park.

Pier 31’s Contract

Pier 31’s contract at 31st Street Beach ended last year, and vendors are now bidding on the contract, Lemons said. Consultants will make their recommendations to the Park District for the next 31st Street Beach vendor in the coming weeks, Lemons said.
