Winter Farmers Market in South Loop Returns for Second Year
A Seasonal Favorite Returns
It’s still farmers market season in South Loop, and the winter farmers market is meeting demand for events during the colder months. After a successful run last winter, the winter farmers market in South Loop is back for a second year.
A Market for All Ages
The market is free to attend, open to all ages, and features over 30 vendors each week offering everything from fresh produce to home decor. One entrepreneur, Chicago Firefighter Duana Holmes, started her skincare business four years ago after inspiration from her day job.
“I think it goes hand-in-hand. I think making natural soaps to make sure we’re clean, make sure our skin is in optimal condition. I think it’s worked perfectly for us,” Holmes said.
Supporting Local Businesses
The farmers market also offers small businesses an opportunity to make money during the colder months, when outdoor farmers markets are closed.
“It turns out that the businesses and this community really needed us. These few months – January, February, March – there’s so little going on, especially in the cold weather,” organizer Tina Feldstein said.
A Place to Gather
Organizers said it gives people something to do as well.
“I mean, look at this place. It’s packed, people are excited, there’s music, it’s close by. It makes you feel not forgotten in the winter,” said Kendra Barberena, who was visiting from Michigan.
Market Details
