Would you like a slice of Baja Blast with your sip of Baja Blast? On Nov. 5, Taco Bell finally dropped its shockingly blue dessert, the Mountain Dew Baja Blast Pie, which takes the chain’s iconic tropical Baja Blast soda flavor and “reimagines it” as a Key lime–style pie.
What is the Baja Blast Pie?
The Baja Blast Pie features a creamy filling made with real Key West lime juice and a graham-crumb crust, and is topped with whipped cream. The aquamarine dessert is now available nationwide in-store only for a limited time. And it’s only sold whole, priced at $19.99, not by the slice. Additionally, at select Live Más Cafés in Southern California and Texas, the chain is also selling the Baja Blast Pie Chiller for a limited time, starting Nov. 6.
The Baja Blast Pie Chiller
The frozen, sippable spin on the dessert features a slice of Baja Blast Pie mixed with a vanilla ice cream base and finished with whipped cream and churro crunch pieces. Taco Bell says quantities of the Baja Blast Pie are limited and that it’s one of the chain’s “most exclusive product drops to date,” but luckily, I was able to obtain one to review.
My Baja Blast Pie Review
It was quite a scene at my local Taco Bell when I showed up to get my hands on what is easily the wildest-looking pie I’ve ever seen. When I ordered it, the cashier looked at me like I was the first person willing to pay this much for it. A man behind me in line said he was curious about it, too, but hadn’t taken the $20 plunge yet. The pie comes in an attractive box that has “Yours by a slice of luck” written on the side, and I wondered if it truly was luck that brought me to try a pie that would make a Victorian child faint.

The Taste of the Baja Blast Pie
When I got home, I cut myself a slice, noticing that its color was more robin’s-egg blue than Baja turquoise. But it really tastes like a Baja Blast. I’m not sure if its the placebo effect, but I could almost feel carbonation on my tongue as I tasted its sugary-sour-citrus flavor. Since people on social media joked that the pie sent them to the emergency room, I must note I remain in one piece. Its taste is not unusual, like an exceptionally sweet Key lime pie; its color is the only alarming thing.
The Verdict
I know people are wondering if it tastes like regret, and to me, it doesn’t. It’s surprisingly good. The experience of eating it is strange in a “I’m driving through this small town and the diner here is selling something called alphabet noodle pie, but it’s actually not too bad” type of way.
