Enjoyable Labor Day weekend before temperatures plunge – NBC Chicago

Must read

Labor Day Weekend Weather Forecast

If you’re planning to attend an outdoor gathering or do some grilling this Labor Day weekend, you’re in luck; near-perfect conditions, complete with plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the 70s, are expected for the holiday weekend.

Saturday’s Weather

But before we see more ideal weather, expect to encounter some clouds early Saturday, along with potentially a few sprinkles, NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Kevin Jeanes said.

Then will come the sunshine.

It won’t turn bright and sunny immediately this afternoon, but clouds will start to thin out as the day progresses.

Temperature Forecast

High temperatures will climb into the low 70s as mostly clear skies – and sunshine – set in. Despite enjoyable weather, readings will be below average for this time of year; average highs are usually in the low 80s.

Sunshine will be the dominant theme come Sunday as temperatures warm to the upper 70s. We’ll see a continuation of bright skies come Monday, with values increasing to around 80 degrees.

For those heading home from holiday weekend destinations, Monday will be a good day for a road trip, with comfortable conditions, light winds and plenty of sunshine. Once the shortened workweek picks up, we’ll encounter more 80 degree-temperatures for a bit.

Week Ahead Forecast

Dry conditions with daytime high temperatures generally in the 70s are expected into early next week. A strong cold front will then bring showers and possibly storms on Wednesday, followed by much cooler temperatures later in the week. #ILwx #INwx pic.twitter.com/20BDR2dOCB

That’ll change Wednesday, when a cold front is expected to move through. Timing remains uncertain, however. If the front moves in sooner, high temperatures may end up in the 70s, Jeanes said. But if the front happens to arrive later, high temperatures could be greater.

If that holds true, high temperatures could be in the low 80s on Wednesday afternoon. A dramatic shift could occur in the subsequent hours, however. Temperatures could plunge all the way to the high 50s by Thursday afternoon.

Record-Breaking Temperatures

According to NBC 5 Storm Team meteorologists, it’s very early in the season for such a large temperature drop. The especially cool temperatures could potentially be record-setting; the record for the lowest maximum temperature on Thursday is 60 degrees.

The system will come with a chance of rain and the possibility of thunderstorms on Wednesday. The chance for strong storms will increase if temperatures climb into the 80s, meteorologists said.

Highs will reach the 60s on Thursday, though morning temperatures will likely only be in the 40s. Some spots outside Chicago could be as cold as the low 40s on Friday and Saturday morning, Jeanes said.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Labor Day weekend is expected to bring near-perfect weather conditions, with plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the 70s. However, a cold front is expected to move through on Wednesday, bringing showers and possibly storms, followed by much cooler temperatures later in the week. It’s essential to stay updated with the latest weather forecast to plan your outdoor activities accordingly.
