Hours after a severe thunderstorm blew through parts of Lake and Cook Counties in northeast Illinois, some could see more rounds of scattered showers and storms at times Monday, the NBC 5 Storm Team said.

But what you see will depend on where you live.

“Not everyone will see it,” NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Alicia Roman said. “But remember, if you do, it could be on the gusty side.”

Monday started out dry and warm, with high temperatures expected to reach the mid-to-upper 80s. High dew points will also keep things muggy, Roman said, though a cold front passing in overnight will bring humidity down Tuesday.

Beginning around 10 a.m. or 11 a.m., some in Lake and Cook Counties in Illinois and parts of northwest Indiana could start to see showers and storms developing, according to the National Weather Service. Between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., storms could become more widespread across the Chicago area, moving further east and south as the evening goes on.

Storms will be “few and far between,” Roman said. Still, any that do develop could turn strong to severe.

According to the Storm Prediction Center, the entire Chicago area Monday was at a marginal risk of severe weather, which ranks as level one of five. The greatest threats from storms were “damaging downburst” winds, heavy rainfall and frequent lightning, the NWS said.

After Monday’s storm chances, quieter and less humid conditions will move in Tuesday. Heat and humidity will build back up beginning Thursday and lasting through the weekend, with drier weather expected through the Fourth of July holiday on Friday.

According to Roman, scattered storm chances were back in the forecast Saturday.
