LOGAN SQUARE — Juice bar Pure Green has joined Logan Square’s corridor of national chains on Milwaukee Avenue. Pure Green, which already has seven city locations, opened Saturday at 2497 N. Milwaukee Ave. The juice bar offers cold-pressed juices, protein shakes, oatmeal, açai bowls, juice cleanses and juice shots.

Owner Harold Crittenden, of West Town, plans to add superfood toasts to the menu featuring locally made bread, he said. Crittenden has a background in e-commerce business consulting for large-scale companies but wanted to try his hand at owning a business locally after becoming more of a healthy eater, he said. With no smoothie spots on nearby blocks, Crittenden decided the location was prime to cater to neighbors, gyms and yoga studios.

Target Audience and Goals

“I like the people’s individuality and everything that’s going on in Logan Square,” Crittenden said. Pure Green caters to people who want to improve their eating habits or grab a protein shake after a workout, Crittenden said. He aims to make healthier eating choices more accessible to the area. “Everybody should be able to get healthy food in an approachable way that tastes good,” he said. “We have protein-packed stuff for people that want to go to the gym or pack on the weight, some lower-calorie options for people trying to lose weight. We have some sweeter smoothies with no sugar added, too.”

Community Integration and Future Plans

Crittenden is looking forward to being part of the growing community and to offer more meals and drinks to neighbors, he said. The company plans to unveil an espresso shot with black pepper and turmeric called Lil Joe, the first new shot in about four years, he said. The spot joins other chain retailers on the strip, including Sweetgreen, a small-format Target, Big Wig Tacos, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream and K-Fire Korean BBQ.
