Friday Night and Weekend Forecast

FRIDAY NIGHT: Mainly clear, seasonably chilly. Near freezing normally colder inland locations. Low: 35.

A center of high pressure will be positioned across southern Illinois on Saturday, resulting in plenty of sunshine for the Chicago area and a relatively light wind regime along with highs surging into the lower 60s away from the lake.

Onshore breezes will promote lake cooling for areas within several miles of Lake Michigan. Highs there may top out near 50 degrees then settle back into the middle 40s in the afternoon.

Cloud cover will return Saturday night along with the chance for a few light showers after midnight. Rainfall looks to be light and likely enough to wet the ground in some locations.

Sunday will feature a mix of sunshine along with more clouds than Saturday. Winds will be noticeably stronger out of the south, pumping warmer air into the region. Highs will surge well into the 60s for most of the area. The one exception again near Lake Michigan, especially along the north shore.

The back to back highs in the 60s officially will make this the second warmest weekend of the year so far. The only weekend warmer occurred March 29-30 when highs reached 71 degrees and 75 degrees respectively.
