Introduction to 47th Street Summertime Cantina
BACK OF THE YARDS — A newly opened Mexican restaurant in Back of the Yards is bringing a modern twist on traditional cantinas to 47th Street. 47th Street Summertime Cantina opened last month at 1347 W. 47th St., just a few blocks west of the Stock Yards Industrial Park gate. The restaurant, owned by local business and nonprofit executive Torrey Barrett, pays homage to Mexican culture with its wall art, a bar with a selection of Mexican spirits such as tequila and mezcal and food favorites such as tacos, tortas, birria and fajitas.
Concept and Ambiance
“We wanted to bring something unique to Back of the Yards,” said general manager Jesus Aceves. “Just for it to be a place where people, families and new generations can enjoy nice food, a nice cocktail and hang out.”

Cocktail Menu
The cocktail menu was crafted in collaboration with mixologist Jaime Cervantes, Aceves said. The bar offers traditional cocktails like palomas; margaritas and cantaritos, creative cocktails inspired by Hispanic flavors and heavily based on tequila and mezcalas; as well as spirits, mocktails and beer.

All cocktails are prepared with housemade syrups, fruit purees and natural juices.
“We want it to be more of a cocktail experience,” Aceves said.
Best-Selling Cocktails
Among the bestsellers are the traditional margarita and a hibiscus mezcal sour, the latter a good way to introduce to mezcal to customers, Aceves said.
