Chicago to Play Host to Premier League Summer Series

The Chicago Sports Commission and the Premier League have announced that Chicago will be one of three U.S. cities to host the second edition of the Premier League Summer Series, a pre-season tournament designed to bring teams from Europe’s best soccer league to fans across the pond.

Doubleheader at Soldier Field

On Wednesday, July 30, Soldier Field will host a doubleheader featuring four Premier League clubs – AFC Bournemouth, Everton, Manchester United, and West Ham United. This will be the first time Chicago has hosted a matchup of Premier League teams and comes after Premier League Mornings Live fan festival in Lincoln Park last September.

Mayor’s Statement

“Chicago is the greatest sports city in America, and I am thrilled to join the Chicago Sports Commission in welcoming the Premier League to Soldier Field this summer,” said Mayor Brandon Johnson. “This event will showcase the beauty and diversity of Chicago to viewers around the world and demonstrate our ability to host major high-profile events of all varieties.”

Tournament Details

This is the second Premier League Summer Series to take place in the United States. In July 2023, more than 265,000 fans watched the first iteration of the Premier League Summer Series, with Chelsea FC winning the inaugural tournament.

Chicago is the only new city to be hosting Premier League Summer Series matches this year. Each leg of this year’s round-robin format tournament will involve all four teams playing double-headers at each location.
