The powerful early March storm system is far from over. Expect waves of showers, perhaps a thunderstorm, and strong winds to continue through Wednesday, with a gradual shift to wet snow during the afternoon and evening.
The transition will take place in the far northwest suburbs first then spread east into the city early Wednesday evening. Minimal accumulations are anticipated.

Temperatures that open the day in the low 50s early Wednesday morning will fall into the 30s by evening, and near freezing by 9 p.m. amid gusty northwest winds which could reach 50 mph at times.

A Wind Advisory begins a 2 p.m. and lasts through midnight for the far western suburbs where gusts may reach 50 mph at times.
Dangerous Winter Storm impacts Central U.S.
At least sections of five states are currently under “Blizzard Warnings” as a band of heavy, wet snow and strong winds will cause whiteout conditions across portions of the Central Plains and Midwest, which will continue well into the day on Wednesday. Travel in these areas could be dangerous, if not life threatening.

Conditions will be dry for Thursday, with high temps near seasonal averages in the low 40s. Friday brings another shot for some rain, which could change over to some snow by early Saturday.
As March progresses in Chicagoland, normal highs increase quite a bit from the first day of the month to the last day of the month.
Daylight time also increases significantly, with clocks springing forward overnight this Saturday into Sunday.
