Forecast: Cloudy and a bit colder; some precipitation possible

Must read

Expect Some Rain Showers on Wednesday Night and Possibly Again Toward the Thursday Morning Rush Hour

Temperatures will be a bit colder than they have been, but still above normal.

Thursday’s Forecast

Thursday will be far more cloudy than in recent days, with perhaps some mixed wet snowflakes or flurries at times in far northern areas. Precipitation exits by afternoon with partial clearing likely at night. Thursday’s high temperature should be in the mid-40s.

Gusty Winds Ahead

This sets the stage for some gusty winds beginning Thursday evening, but more so during the day Friday when gusts would reach or exceed 40 mph at times. A strong low pressure system passing north of Chicago with tightly packed isobars is the culprit and is indicative of an area of strong winds. This will result in some impressive wind gusts across Chicagoland through Friday night.

Looking Ahead

Frigid arctic air has retreated back north and shows no sign of returning to the central/eastern U.S. in the near future. While some temperature variations are likely, the overall above normal temperature regime appears a good bet as we move into March.
