In Session, New Lounge Focused On ‘The Love Of Music,’ Takes Over West Loop’s Tribe Supper Club
A New Era for Music and Entertainment in the West Loop
After three years of bringing music, Caribbean-inspired food, and cocktails to the West Loop, Christopher Morris is hitting the reset button. Morris, the owner of Tribe Supper Club, 1239 W. Lake St., has revamped the space, transforming it into a new concept called in session, a soundbite lounge focused on “the love of music.”
From Tribe Supper Club to in Session
Tribe Supper Club was one of a few live music venues in the West Loop when it opened in 2022. However, Morris felt that the club had strayed from its original mission over time. “We started off with a strong music following, and you know, over time things just got a little convoluted,” Morris said. “I just felt like we needed to go back and really press the reset button and get back to not just the love of music, but even the diversity within music.”
A New Concept: in Session
in session is a soundbite lounge that prioritizes music over food, a departure from Tribe Supper Club’s more comprehensive approach. The new concept is designed to create an intimate, dynamic atmosphere where music lovers can gather to enjoy their favorite genres, from DJs to burlesque performances.
The Menu
Head chef James Garron, who previously worked at Soho House’s Chicken & Farm Shop, has crafted a seven-item menu that features truffle mac ‘n’ cheese, a smash burger, Korean fried chicken sandwich, and beef short ribs. The menu is designed to be easy to snack on while vibing to the music.
The Music
Morris, a promoter with over a decade of experience, wants in session to be the go-to spot for music enthusiasts. “At any moment, you’re going to hear the best talent of each demographic, whether it’s a DJ, a violinist, a full band, or burlesque – you’re going to hear the top tier of that genre,” he said.
A New Era for Entertainment in the West Loop
in session has already held a sold-out soft launch event in partnership with Chicago influencer Kevin White, known for his Red Room R&B pop-ups. The event sold out in 15 minutes, with over 200 tickets sold. The lounge is open 5 p.m.-2 a.m. Wednesday-Saturday and 1 p.m.-1 a.m. Sundays.
