Chicagoland Bracing for Significant Snowfall This Week
We haven’t seen too much snow in Chicagoland so far this winter. But that could be changing soon, with a significant snowfall forecast for the middle of this week.
Monday’s Forecast
As for Monday, we’ll see a mostly sunny start to the day before skies turn mostly cloudy by mid- to late afternoon. Temperatures ranged in the teens in the early-morning hours but will rise to seasonal levels later, with highs in the low 30s.
Tuesday’s Forecast
There’s a slight chance for scattered snow showers overnight into Tuesday morning, otherwise Tuesday will be dry and mostly cloudy, with temps a bit chillier than Monday.
Snow Moves In on Wednesday
Then, snow moves into Chicagoland, starting early Wednesday morning and picking up by Wednesday afternoon and into the evening commute, with heavy snowfall possible in some locations.
Snowfall Totals
The early forecast is showing between 4 to 8 inches of snow in Chicagoland from Wednesday to Thursday morning, but those totals can certainly change over the next couple days, so stay tuned.
Looking Ahead
Following the lengthy snow event from Wednesday to Thursday morning, temps could drop into the single digits, with dangerous subzero wind chills, on Thursday and Friday morning. Saturday then brings another chance for snow to Chicagoland.
Colder Than Normal Temperature Trend
A colder than normal temperature trend appears to have some staying power, too. Looking ahead the next couple weeks, expect below normal temperatures to dominate, by and large, across the Midwest and Eastern U.S.
