Keep Your Mind Right: How to Protect Your Mental Health in Uncertain Times
As we close the first month of this year, we all know we are in for a year that can be filled with despair and disbelief or hope and faith. Our daily peace of mind will continue to be challenged in the days ahead. I intentionally waited until the end of the month to write this article to take the country’s pulse after the inauguration.
From the wildfires in California to the elimination of DEI in our federal government and many corporations, buckle up! The rollercoaster, horse bucking, dog biting, and tree-hanging tactics have just begun.
I request that you get your "MIND RIGHT" because this toxic atmosphere, energy, and environment will have you second-guessing mere humanity. The phrases "I can’t believe…" or "Can you believe…" will be common in conversations.
But believe it! We are in for what I have termed the WMM times, the "White Man’s Movement!" They call themselves being sick and tired of being sick and tired of being left behind in the race and gender world of difference. They aspire to the look and feel of being anything other than superior stewed in the pot of supremacy and now the top has popped. Wealth and greed must be protected by all means necessary, and the rise of other ethnicities accessing the "possibilities" of equality must be halted and ceased.
I have heard the term "merit" used as an equalizer in our society today. If we have a merit system, there is no need for special programs or opportunities. All things based on merit should provide a flow of opportunity and access we have never encountered in this country.
The Importance of Keeping Your Mind Right
I write articles on health and wellness, so excuse my digression. My focus this month is keeping your "Mind Right," and I just wanted you to know how easily distracted you can become by today’s WMM.
I encourage you to equip your mental and emotional well-being with daily GOOD NEWS because the bad news is plentiful. I implore you to be intentional about protecting your mental health and digital consumption. I warn you about allowing disagreements and the tactics of those filled with hate to distract you from the soul of God’s child you are. We no longer have Martin, Malcolm, or Marcus to lead us, and whoever is your spiritual guide should lead you to keep your "Mind Right."
What "Keeping Your Mind Right" Means
Let me share what it doesn’t mean! Elevated heart rates and high blood pressure for extended periods. Needing a little extra "nip" to take the edge off daily. Your stomach is in constant knots, and your head constantly hurts. Weight gain due to consuming comfort food more often than not. Every day has become a cheat day! If you are dealing with any or all of these symptoms, I can guarantee you that your mind is NOT RIGHT! So, let’s get you there!
Five Tips to Keep Your Mind Right
Here are five tips to keep your MIND RIGHT! This is nothing you probably haven’t heard before, but are you doing it?
- Start your day in MINDFULNESS. Allow yourself 5 minutes to an hour before you consume digital content, news, or anything that might fill your mind, body, and spirit with negative thoughts and energy.
- Take time to BE GRATEFUL. Think and feel joyful about what you do have. If you are reading this article, you have more than most, practice gratitude.
- BREATHE! You would be surprised at what a few deep breaths of inhaling and exhaling can do when you’re stressed or filled with anxiety.
- Kill them with KINDNESS! We have enough darkness, so choose to be the light.
- And most importantly, don’t try to control what you can’t control. CONTROL your reactions, responses, and self-respect. No one can do anything to you that you don’t allow them to do!
Conclusion
Keep Your Mind Right and be well!
