South Side Bakery Hopes Security Footage Can Help Identify Burglars
Businesses Across the City Hit by Overnight Burglaries
A French bakery in Hyde Park was one of several businesses broken into overnight Wednesday, with the owners hoping security footage can help capture those responsible.
La Boulangerie Hit by Burglars
La Boulangerie, which has only been open for two months, was broken into around 12:20 a.m. Thursday morning. Owner Patricia Pertusot described the scene, saying, “I look at the cameras from my phone and I see two people inside who broke in. They entered by the door, I think with a tool.”
Burglars Took Valuables
Pertusot said the burglars took some money, the safe, and the register. While the business is still reeling from the loss, Pertusot is grateful that no one was hurt.
Other Businesses Hit
Unconnected break-ins also occurred in the 7000 block of West Higgins Avenue in Norwood Park on the Northwest Side. Trio’s Pizza, Elite Total Rehab, and Roberto’s Jewelers were among the businesses hit, with police saying each burglary happened just minutes apart.
Silver Sedan Sought
In the cases of the burglaries that happened on the City’s Northwest Side, five male suspects were seen leaving the scene in a silver sedan.
Alderman Calls for Reflection
Alderman Desmon Yancy (5th Ward) called for reflection as the city finds a better way to address business break-ins around the city. “I can see it being discouraging, but it’s an opportunity for us to think about how we can be more vigilant and make sure that we’re able to prevent against these vandalisms and burglaries,” Yancy said.
La Boulangerie Will Continue to Push Forward
Pertusot and her business will continue to push forward, determined to rebuild and recover from the loss. “Thank God nobody got hurt,” Pertusot said. “Money can be replaced. It’s very unfortunate.”
Conclusion
The South Side bakery is hoping that security footage will help identify the burglars and bring them to justice. As the city continues to work towards preventing and addressing business break-ins, La Boulangerie will remain committed to its mission of providing delicious French pastries to the community.
