After selecting 14 items, he went to the self-checkout, paying for some but not all of the items, which were valued at $140. Authorities said Kinsey was leaving the store with all the items when Elmhurst police arrested him.

While searching his vehicle, officers found a loaded 9mm handgun in the center console. The weapon was reported stolen out of Chicago, according to the state’s attorney.

“Armed felons who come to our community to commit crime will not be tolerated by the hardworking officers of the Elmhurst Police Department,” Elmhurst Chief of Police Michael McLean said. “I am grateful for the proactive efforts of our police officers and to State’s Attorney Bob Berlin for prosecuting dangerous weapon offenders to the fullest extent of the law.”
