A community alert has been issued after a man attempted to lure a child who was walking into a grocery store on the city’s West Side.
The Incident
According to police, a child was walking to a grocery store on Wednesday in the area of 1100 South Kedzie Avenue/3200 West Roosevelt Avenue, when a 2019 Black Jeep Cherokee drove alongside the victim and the driver asked to exchange phone numbers.
Driver’s Request
The child walked away and the driver told the victim that he would wait outside in the parking lot for him. Police said the child entered the store and called his mother, who drove over to the parking lot and confronted the offender. The man then drove off north on Kedzie Avenue.
Offender’s Description
Police said the man was described as being white Hispanic, between 30 and 40-years-old. He was wearing a black winter skull cap and black winter coat. He had a gray beard/goatee, thin mustache, and clear-framed glasses.
Vehicular Description
The man was last seen driving a 2019 Black Jeep Cherokee.
