The latest one happened around 10:45 p.m. Sunday in the 2300 block of South Washtenaw Avenue, according to police. A 22-year-old man was standing outside a church when he was shot by an unidentified offender driving in a black sedan.

Police say the victim was shot twice in the arm and once in the chest and was taken to an area hospital in fair condition.

Previous Shooting Leaves One Dead, One Wounded

Just under seven hours before that, around 4 p.m. Sunday, a 43-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman were shot in a drive-by incident in the 4000 block of West 26th Street.

Police say a dark-colored sedan pulled up and an unknown offender fired multiple shots from inside the vehicle, hitting the man numerous times throughout the body and the woman once in the left leg.

The woman was taken to an area hospital in good condition. The man, who has not yet been identified, died from his injuries after being taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

Early Morning Shooting Claims Life of 16-Year-Old Boy

In the early-morning hours Sunday, at around 1:30 a.m., a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy were standing on the sidewalk in the 2600 block of South Avers Avenue when they were shot, according to police.

The 16-year-old, later identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as Jesus M. Sanchez of Chicago, was shot in the abdomen and later died at an area hospital. Police say Sanchez was outside a relative’s home, about a half-mile from his own home, when he was shot.

The 15-year-old was shot in the back and taken to an area hospital in good condition.

Investigation Ongoing, Motive Unclear

Investigators have not disclosed a motive for why the two teenagers were shot while standing on a sidewalk.

Alderman Calls for Community’s Help

“I’ve been an outreach worker, a youth mentor, all my life,” 22nd Ward Ald. Michael Rodriguez said. “I’ve worked on this issue, and we’ve just lost too many kids to senseless acts of violence.

“… This is blocks from my house, where my 12-year-old and 6-year-old were sleeping (Saturday) night. This is unacceptable. We’ve got to redouble our efforts.”

Rodriguez also made a plea to the public to come forward and report anything they might know about such violent crimes.
