Tornado Warning Issued for Southern Cook County

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a tornado warning Tuesday afternoon for southern Cook County, warning that a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Matteson and moving east at 10 miles per hour.

“Damage to roofs, windows and vehicles will occur,” the NWS stated. “Tree damage is likely.”

The “dangerous” storm was expected to hit areas including Park Forest, Homewood, Matteson, Country Club Hills, Hazel Crest, Richton Park, Flossmoor and Olympia Fields in the region, with a warning expiration time of 12:45 p.m.

Weather Conditions

The heavy rain storm moving through the area brought concerns of localized flooding, making it mandatory for residents to stay off the roads and avoid windows and walls to prevent risk of damage.
